1st choose either 1/8" or 3/16" diameter. 2nd choose correct length. This is dictated by how many strips of metal you are joining together and their total thickness. If working with up to 1/8" thick flat strip metal to be riveted together, the rivet should be approx 1/16" - 1/8" longer than the combined thickness of the metalwork, if working with flat strip metal thicker than 1/8" together the rivet should extend approx 1/8" - 3/16" longer than the combined thickness of the metalwork being riveted.
